American Journalism Review - The Expanding Blogosphere. Interesting article about blogging and journalism.

My view is that blogging and the like is good. It seems like mainstream journalism is caught up in repeating each other. Just witness the recent Iraqi prison bruhaha. Sure, a couple of bad apples did things that were not in keeping with our ideals. But so far, there is no indication that this was anything except a very isolated happening. But the mainstream media kept hammering on it, ignoring the finding of WMDs in Iraq and the beheading of Nick Berg by Al Quida - in Iraq. Despite this, last week Al Gore called President Bush a lier for claiming WMDs (or the potential thereof) in Iraq, and suggesting a linkage between Al Quida and Iraq.

That is the reason that mainstream journalism is losing its audience. Only someone with their head stuck in the sand would trust mainstream media for news of what is happening in the world. They so obviously spin the news, reporting only what they want to report, and pushing stuff solely to embasass Bush, when bigger stories go unreported.

Just my musings. I am a divorced parent with a 8th grade daughter living more with her mother than with me. By profession, I am a patent attorney, specializing in software and electronics. I like outdoor sports, esp. skiing. The last couple of years I worked as a volunteer at Keystone Ski Area in Colo. I am also a founding member of the Geriatric Tele Society (GTS). I can be reached at bhayden either at ieee.org or at highdown.com. Highdown BTW is the origin of my last name (Hayden).
